This adapter comes with an OBD-II type
connector which plugs right in to most 1994 and newer VW's and
1996 and newer Audis. Most 1990-1995 Audis and
1990-1993 VW's have the "2x2"
data link connector, click here for more info.
Extending this Interface:
The cable on this adapter is about 7 feet long -- just
right for most laptops. If you want to use this
interface with a desktop PC, you will need to use a standard Ethernet
patch cord (straight-through, no crossovers, no
"flips") as an extension cord in any length you want
up to 100ft (30m). We don't sell
patch-cords, but you can buy them almost anywhere these days
-- Radio Shack, Office Max, CompUSA, even Home
Depot. See the order form for more details.
You will also need an RJ45 Coupler. We can provide
the coupler as a $5 option (see the order form for details).
You can also extend the PC side of this interface up to 50'
(15m) with a standard Serial (DB9M to DB9F) extension,
but those are usually more expensive and harder to find than
Ethernet patch cords.
Known Issues:
A few models of cars have extremely
tight trim around the OBD-II connector. The FAST-COM uses
an OBD-II connector that is sometimes difficult to fit easily
into the following cars:
Note:
We do not sell any interface
adapters as a
"Stand-Alone" products. We only sell them with
our software.
